..AND... Mac OS X is NOT {Linux,Unix,BSD,*NIX}, it is merely BASED UPON
them. This was FIRMLY ASSERTED by Apple when they designed "aliases" in
Mac OS X... they are NOT compatible between the Mac OS X GUI level and
the "ln" or "ln -s" level of POSIX.
so, you either get the "full meal deal" BUNDLE of HW+SW and enjoy your
"digital life a la Steve Jobs's vision thereof" or you take a hike.

...and Apple's MAINLINE is LapTops.
The bottom line is, when they give up the BUNDLing game, they're not
really market competitive.
Now that there are AMD 64bit processors in LapTops, Apple's only edge is
their bundle of iLife iApplications from their iMaginary iJobs iReality
iDistortion iField.
Right now they have a market edge in G5 DeskTops, but there are other
hardware companies out there developing more open hardware designs with
G5s that are more attractive for Linux installation than the closed
undocumented Mac HW designs.
The Apple 1984 Advertisement cast IBM as evil big brother controlling
the computing world versus the innovative Apple Macintosh liberator...
but now their roles have completely reverse. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates
ARE the Big Brothers. IBM is now the liberator with Penguins
