Just tried the Ubuntu release on a B&W G3, 300/320RAM/6gig Maxtor IDE. I
just took defaults; when it reboots, I get the following:
pivot-root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: cannot open dev/console: No such file
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init
Tried a second time, messed around a little with the partition manager,
same result. A guess as to the problem: a note in the partion manager
help says something about not being able to write over a partition that
already has a Linux file system; this box had YDL 3.0.1 on it already.
But even though it says you can't do it, it just goes goes ahead and
tries if you say yes. My next step is to wipe the disc with a Mac
install cd, and try again, unless anyone has another suggestion.
Meanwhile, successfully booted and into the second phase of install on a
Lombard Powerbook...
