    fbdev is the right one, unless you have a separate graphics card
    installed (which we know is not the case)

    no, these other ones will not help in your case. They are the drivers
    for graphic cards, eg from ATI (aty) or Matrox (mga).

    run
    dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

    there, select the fbdev driver, and use the "advanced" mode for setting
    up the display. You will want to set color depth to 15 bits, and
    resolution to something your monitor supports (800x600 may be a good
    choice). As for hsync and vsync values, just accept the defaults for the
    time being. You can adjust them to your particular monitor later.

    Linux doesn't know or care about your abilities, so this should not
    affect the primary installation :-) Certainly personal abilities will
    come into play later, when it is up to configuration and customization,
    but I found there is nothing a good google search will not help to fix.

    PS: the 4.0 version of Yellowdog Linux is out for free download now. You
    might give it a try, its graphic installer certainly makes it easier to
    get things up and running.
