Is it possible to install Mandrake PPC without using the installer?

I've been trying to install Mandrake 10.1 on my G4 the past few days.
But I can't get the installer to run. Whether I run in text or GUI
mode, the result is always a black screen with vertical blue stripes.

Is it possible to install Linux from OS X by dragging the files off
the CD and dropping them directly on the partition I want them in? (or
by using Terminal and a whole lotta "mv" commands)
