    I think you will need more of a MacOS system than is on the floppy. I
    don't think you can boot old world macs directly into linux. I would be
    happy to be convinced otherwise. I think 8.1 is probably the earliest
    system you can use on a G3 but not sure. I will try 7.6.1 on mine and
    get back to you on that. If you intend to primarily run Linux the
    cheaper (read older) you can go on MacOS the better I would think. You
    should be able to find something on eBay for $30 US or less. What
    flavor Linux are you using?
