Straggler Distros for Aged PowerMac 7600?

I'd like to learn about Linux. I've got a PowerMac 7600 (604 chip,
132MHz) that still works fine. I can use it for experimenting.
Eventually, I'd like to migrate my other machine, a PC, from Windows to
Linux. I'm hoping the Linux/Mac experience will ease my way into the
PC/Linux migration.

While canvassing plenty of web sites reporting great things about Yellow
Dog Linux, I notice that the newest YDL 4.0 doesn't support Old Gen
Macs. Same seems to be the case with Mandrake 10.1.

Is Debian a best bet? Elsewise, an older version of YDL? I'm a little
off-put by YDL's site because I could find no reference to any version
but the most current (4.0).

I'm not sure if a upgrade kit to G3 is worth it? Is it?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Bob
