Hi Im new to linux and unix. My question is,

I log into my box as root I then go to the directory that has an
executable file or script in it. But when I type the file name I get
an error stating that it can't run.

However, if I enter the complete path to the file, then the file runs
fine. I havent found any documentation to explain this behavior.

Why does it behave like this?
