    WOW! It works just like you said, even into, and out of, vim!
    I didn't need to 'copy' between select and paste either.
    Now I wonder if 'copy' was necessary in Windows? I just always did it.

    I failed to mention I am learning in/on/under/using a knoppix CD and
    have not yet installed Debian. I plan to use Debian as my distro of
    choice. This is a good choice, right?

    In knoppix, 'whereis' didn't find 'pan'. I'll hold on 'pan' till I
    have Debian up.
