    Hi there,

I've decided to make the switch from RH8 to Debian, mainly because of
the promise of apt-get (rpm - oh the pain). Now I'm left with all the
grunt configuration work I had to do with RH but in a different way...
All the stuff I describe here works in RH8, but not Debian (naturally,
both are installed on the same machine)

    1) My Logitech USB cordless mouse does not work, although the logitech
USB cordless keyboard (same receiver) does. The necessary modules
(usbcore, usb-uhci, hid) are all installed - RH does not seem to need
mousedev or usbmouse to make it work, but modprobe-ing these under
Debian doesn't make any difference anyway. I think the RH installation
is using /dev/input/mouse which doesn't seem to be present on Debian.
I've tried using /dev/input/mice, which is present under Debian, but
    that doesn't work either.

    2) Is the resolution selection tool in Debian? I can't find one. The
menu system for Gnome is... confusing.

    3) I'm running a Sony Vaio laptop. Every time I reboot from Debian,
the "Sony" logo comes up but the BIOS doesn't boot. I have to hard
reset. Any ideas what might cause this?

    4) Under RH8 I'm using a 2.6.2 kernel with acpi support which
speed-steps my fan and processor. However, since installing Debian,
the fan runs flat-out all the time. How is it that the other OS has
    effected this acpi control?

    Peter
