I'm looking to make one of my computers bootable under Linux, however
I want to preserve the existing stuff. This means changing the
partitions, without blasting away anything that's there.

That's easy - just use parted.

One problem. Parted runs under Linux, and that's what I -don't- have
    installed.

What I need, therefore, is a distro or a "live" Linux OS on a CD that
-also- has parted, so I can change the partition tables.

You'd have thought that would be no problem. Such a common situation,
surely Fedora or Gentoo do this! Nope. Neither can resize existing
    partitions.

Oh, and I'm not spending a fortune on Partition Magic (another
partition resize tool, which comes in a form I can run straight off),
when there's a perfectly good free tool that'll do the job - if only I
could find a way to run it!
