I don't know if I can help
and it's a particularly bad omen that google is littered with messages
about the same error in kscd and some other kde apps but, alas, without
any clear responses beyond 'use another app' or 'upgrade kde'. (there's a
guy who had your exact problem in January of this year! he got xmcd to
work.)
(is this a fresh install? did you do an update? not saying you should or
you shouldn't; just fishing around here though the updates are
recommended.)
I'm wondering though: it wasn't clear to me from your post whether you had
killed the sleeping instance of kscd before restarting it. I assume so.
well, I guess I don't think it matters.
perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in. I would also invoke SuSE
support if you qualify.
oh, workarounds: I just checked the site for xmcd; looks cool. you say you
can invoke it but it gives a 'no disk' error. have you looked for its
configuration tab to make sure it is pointing in the right place for your
cd player?
