Typically, "make menuconfig" from the root source directory. If
you run it and then exit (and save) right away, then you'll have
a generic kernel .config. Also, your distro might have the
.config for their kernels somewhere, but I'm not sure of this
since I always hand-roll mine. I recommend you try it too, if
only for the educational value.
One thing to note, is there are occasional problems with certain
boards and Linux's internal AGP driver when used with nVidia's
driver. This can be changed from (off the top of my head)
Device Drivers -> Character Devices -> AGPGART Interface, or
something like that.
