Hi all,
I've installed Redhat 8.0 on a Compaq Presario 2266 (Cyrix processor,
128 MB RAM) with a Canon BJ-100. Everything seems to be working except
printing - nothing is printed out when attempting to use the "lp"
command or the "test page" feature of the configuration menu. I've
attempted to use both CUPS and LPR. I've tried three configurations of
the parallel port (EPP, SPP, and Auto) at the BIOS. However,
connectivity is fine as the command "echo Hello > /dev/lp0" produces
proper output at the printer. I've tried both the bj-200 and the omni
printer drivers of LPR, with various combinations of driver options
(won't swear I've tried every combo, though).
I've upgraded CUPS, ghostscript (which caused me to upgrade GLIBC), and
LPR to the latest versions supported under RedHat 8.x, at least as far
as rpm.pbone.net seems to indicate. Any others I should upgrade?
The printer and software seem fine, as I can print using the exact same
software on a HP Omnibook 800CT, at least with LPR.
I've been working on this for a couple of days, and I'm running out of
ideas. I'd use a newer version of Redhat/Fedora, but I'm in no position
to download one at the moment. Any hints or ideas?
Thanks.
