well first thank you for your help though unsuccessful. as to the first
reply I had been to that site and installed that exact file since xmms
does not come with fedora core 3. the program installed fine and runs well
but will not play any files I have tried yet. I mainly want to play mp3's.
the first time I tried to play an mp3 I got a message that said that due
to a licensing agreement the mp3 capability of xmms would be disabled.
from that time on it won't even load an mp3 in the play list. I looked for
the mp3 plugin but it is not on xmms' website. I found a file from another
site but it was for an older version. I tried to install it anyway and got
the message that I needed the following files: libXvMCW.so.1, libaa.so.1,
libdvdcss, libfame-0.9.so.1 . I tried to find these files but could not
find them all and some would not install without the others. fedora core
comes with a program called helix which is the program oppened when you
click on an mp3 it also says that the ability to play mp3's is unavailable
and then asks if I want to install Real player so I did and it will play
mp3s one at a time. how long has real player been around that they can't
come up with the ability to play a list of songs? what is this mysterious
agreement that red hat made and with whom? oh, I almost forgot, I looked
in the configuration of xmms' plugins and it shows a plugin called an mp3
plugin place holder? Im guessing that this pseudo plugin tells my player
not to play mp3s and also keeps the real plugin from being installed to
the proper place, or fedora has put this file in the real file's place.
hence the message telling me that I could not play mp3's because of a
licensing agreement. this is the type of crap I thought linux was against!!!
as to the other reply to my first post, thank you but I can't find this
program. where can I get it? the web address you gave simply lauds the
benefits yet offers no help finding the program.
is it me???
I haven't even began to address my dvd problems let alone printer support
scanner support etc...
