Hi...
I have a compaq desktop at work (440BX is what lspci reports it as).
I've been using alsa-0.5.x for the longest time using the es1688 module,
and it's been working great. Trouble is, when I switched to alsa-0.9.4,
then, it seems to refuse to see the card. Here are the appropriate lines
in /etc/modules.conf and my /sbin/lspci output:
modules.conf
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-es1688
options snd-card-es1688 snd_port=0x220 snd_mpu_port=0x330 snd_irq=5
# alias snd-card-0 snd-es1688
# options snd-es1688 port=0x220 mpu_port=0x330 irq=5
# The rest is the same regardless of ALSA version:
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias snd-card-1 off
alias snd-card-2 off
alias snd-card-3 off
alias snd-card-4 off
alias snd-card-5 off
alias snd-card-6 off
alias snd-card-7 off
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias char-major-116 snd
my lspci reports:

00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX AGP bridge (rev 03)

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X (rev 5c)
(My email is temporarily down... so, if you could follow up here, that'd
be best...)
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!
Binesh
