Alternating Wired & Wireless

I currently have Mdk 9.1 on a laptop with an SMC 10/100 PCMCIA card configured. (The card is not directly supported in Mandrake - I had to edit to get it going.) I'm looking at getting an 802.11g card for access to WiFi networks when outside the house (where there's wired connectivity.)
Question: How much trouble will it be to switch between wired ethernet and wireless connectivity? Will it be as simple as pulling out the wired PCMCIA card and popping in the wireless PCMCIA card, having it recognized and configured? or will there will be config headaches when changing media?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done/is doing this. Thanks in advance...
