I can't tell you for RH9 specifically. For RH8, I bought a USB reader. After
making sure USB software was in the kernel, I watched the messages file when
trying to mount the memory stick. I had to modify one of the kernel files to get
it to recognize the code that the device/memory stick was returning. Not a big
modification, but just copying a particular section and reinserting it with
the appropriate code in place.
If modifying kernel files isn't your cup of tea, then I can't help.
