I encountered a similar problem with Slackware Linux 9.0 and decided to use
Slackware Linux 8.1 instead. You can always update in-place after the
initial installation.

mount /dev/hdc /mnt assuming the CDR drive is IDE and /dev/hdc otherwise
substitute the appropriate device name.
