Hi,

I have a PC with RedHat 8.0 installed. Now I want to fresh install
RedHat 8.0. (remove all the old OS and system package stuff except my
data).
My data is on a data partition. Is there a way in kickstart
configuration file to fulfill this?

My current partition table is:

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System Mounting
point
/dev/hda1 * 1 14 105808+ 83 Linux
/boot
/dev/hda2 15 430 3144960 83 Linux /
/dev/hda3 431 499 521640 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda4 500 555 423360 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 500 555 423328+ 83 Linux
/hfs/d1

I want to keep data on /hfs/d1. I tried the following options in KS.CFG
file:

1) Keep "install" option
    Remove "clearpart --all" option
Modify partition option for /hfs/d1 to "part /hfs/d1 --onpart hda5
--noformat"

Result: I got error "Could not allocate requested partitions.
Partitioning failed: Could not allocate partitions as primary partitions

2) Keep "install" option
    Keep "clearpart --all" option
Modify partition option for /hfs/d1 to "part /hfs/d1 --onpart hda5
--noformat"

Result: I got error something like: "Could not find partition hda5"

3) Remove "install" option
    Add "upgrade" option
Remove all partition options because they will be ignored anyway

Result: A message with information like "Since no kernel packages are
installed bootloader will not be changed."
I think it might because the old OS was 8.0 also.
However, I am thinking if the old OS was 7.x, will this
upgrade be a clean upgrade or will it still have some old packages left
in the system if they can still run on 8.0?

Thank you very much for your help!

Xiaoqin
