I use Gentoo with kernel 2.4.22, KDE 3.1.4, Gigabyte 8IG1000MK with
onboard everything... XMMS 1.2.8 can't play sound... it says
"/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy
/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy"
at the command line, and brings up a window:
"Couldn't open audio
Please check that:
1. You have the correct output plugin selected
2. No other programs is blocking the soundcard
3. Your soundcard is configured properly"
I know sound is working, because KDE can play sound effects, and Noatun
and Kaboodle can play sound. Indeed, Noatun and Kaboodle can play at the
same time whilst KDE plays sound effects. I've chmod'd /dev/dsp and
/dev/mixer to 777, and they're symbolic links so I did the same to
/dev/sound/dsp and /dev/sound/mixer, and manually set XMMS to make sure
it's using them.
I'm not sure what else to try, I'm new to Linux. Does anyone have any ideas?
TIA for any help,
Anthony
