Not to long ago I installed redhat 9 on one of my machines. It was a plain
jane install in which I had it install everything. I have since bought a device
that is only supported with a 2.6 kernel. I went to kernel.org and downloaded
2.6-test9 and while it compiled all right it can't get the machine to boot.
It gets to the point of mounting the root filesystem and then I get a kernel
panic. The exact error is "kernel panic: FS: unable to mount root fs on
uknown-block(0,0).
The root filesystem is ext3 and I've compiled in both ext2 and ext3. The drive
is attached to a promise udma controller and shows up as drive hde. Anyone have
any ideas??
