I have a Digital PC 5400 sitting around that I decided to put Linux on.
After some travail, I have Slackware on it...but it doesn't seem to
recognize the ESS 1887 that is built into the system. For that matter,
Knoppix didn't recognize the sound hardware, either. (I tried the alsa
cheatcode; it didn't make any difference.) Has anyone successfully
installed Linux on this sort of computer and gotten the sound to work?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
