You might find the orinoco_cs module to work better for you.

Since we don't see an IP address here, it looks like you're not getting
an IP address via DHCP. How are you requesting your IP address? Are you
running "dhcpcd eth1"?

Does your router have an SSID of "WLAN"? What the router calls SSID and
iwconfig call ESSID are the same thing.

Could be. Try "iwconfig eth1 key off".
