I have changed my video card for an ATI ALL IN WONDER 128 PRO. It seems it
doesn't work with my old redhat 6.0 distribution. So I dicided to download
the latest 4.3.0 server from the xfree86 web site but improved a lot of
problems to install it. Like the docs suggested it, I first ran the sh
xinstall.sh -check command ans got the following answer;

*****************************************************************
result of the following command line;
sh xinstall.sh -check

Checking which OS you're running...
uname reports 'Linux' version '2.2.5-15', architecture 'i686'.
Object format is 'ELF'. libc version is '6.1.1' (6.1).

Binary distribution name is 'Linux-ix86-glibc21'

If you don't find a binary distribution with this name, then
binaries for your platform are not available from XFree86.org.
*****************************************************************

As suggested, I took the files from the "Linux-ix86-glibc21" directory of
the xfree86 ftp site. I don't think it's because of any account right
because I always boot on my root account. If I do the ls -l command, I get
the following answer;

*****************************************************************
result of the follwing command line in directory /root/xfree86;
ls -l

-rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 559568 Dec 28 08:40 extract
-rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 559568 Dec 28 08:40 gnu-tar

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 802288 Dec 26 23:58 xxserv.tgz
*****************************************************************

Finally, the result from all my trials is always the same (whatever I take
the extract or extract.txt or extract.exe file downloaded from the ftp
xfree86 site);

*****************************************************************
result of the following command line;
sh xinstall.sh

  Welcome to the XFree86 4.3.0 installer

You are strongly advised to backup your existing XFree86 installation
before proceeding. This includes the /usr/X11R6, /etc/X11
and /etc/fonts directories. The installation process will
overwrite existing files in those directories, and this may include
some configuration files that may have been customised.

If you are installing a version different from 4.3.0, you
may need an updated version of this installer script.

Checking which OS you're running...

Checking for required files ...

The files:

 Xbin.tgz Xlib.tgz Xman.tgz Xdoc.tgz Xfnts.tgz Xfenc.tgz Xetc.tgz Xvar.tgz
Xxserv.tgz Xmod.tgz

must be present in the current directory to proceed with the
installation. You should be able to find it at the same place
you picked up the rest of the XFree86 binary distribution.
Please re-run 'sh xinstall.sh' to proceed with the installation when
you have them.

Anybody can help ????

I am considering to find another free distribution but would like to fix
this problem. I'd like to maintain my computer instead of starting from
scratch everytime I need to upgrade...
