Yes, you are right, there is no log file if i cannot mount the
root device. But i can boot using the "disc->CDSetup->BootInstalledSystem"
method. If i know the boot params used there, i can compare them to the
params used by GRUB.

I already had a look at the /var/log/boot.msg file but i did not find
any kernel params in it.
Does the dmesg show more than the boot.msg file?
