Missing space on newly installed FedoraCore.1

I did a fresh install of FedoraCore.1 on my 40 GB hardisk.
I created two partitions /dmp and /window of size 17GB and 3.9GB
respectively. As of know, they are empty, but df shows alot of free
space missing. Infact we can see below that capacity != free space +
used space.

Where is the missing space going. Formatting information of the
filesystem cannont takeaway 1GB from 17 GB ????
