My editing tool of choice is vim, which (as JB said) is the defacto
standard when it comes to command line editing in linux. You can call the
program by either 'vi' OR 'vim'... Just read the man page for usage
instructions (it can be tricky if you've never used it before).

I haven't goofed with pico or nano at all, though.
