I have been having problems getting a Redhat Linux 9.0 system to allow
me to mount either a second hard drive or a USB Thumbdrive. The
second hard drive is recognized in the hardware browser and the 2
partitions I created with fdisk display correctly. The USB drive is
recognized in the hardware brower but is not partitioned. Neither of
these devices, however, is mountable. In both cases a mount command
gets the error "no such file or directory in /ect/fstab. What do I
have to do to add these devices to fstab and make them mountable? Are
there any tools in Redhat 9.0 to do this?
The machine Redhat is loaded on is a "Frankenputer" that has been
assembled from the bottom of my spare parts drawer. The second hard
drive is a 4.0 GB IBM that orginally came from a Toshiba laptop
modified to use in a desktop computer (ie. IDE cable and power
adpater). fdisk reports that the drive has 7944 cylinders and since
it is greater that 1024 may cause problems with some applications. Is
my problem possibly that this drive is not natively supported under
Redhat 9.0 kernel?
Thanks,
