How to stop Linux setting up an Ethernet system!

My new Pentium 4 came with an 'Onboard 10/100 Network Port" (which
WinXP lists as "Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC").
However, my use of the PC will be solely as a 1-user standalone
workstation.

When SuSE 9.0 Pro installed it saw the Ethernet kit and assumed I
wanted an Ethernet setup, which it sets about initialising during
every
bootup.
The problem is that it takes a lot of time doing that during booting
(like over 1 minute).

How can I get the installation to forget about setting up Ethernet
during boot?
