Hi,

I appreciate if you can help me the following problem on trying to set
up a secure web server on Redhat 9.

Here is the problem:

I am setting up a secure web server using Apache 2 running on Redhat 9.
I will have 2 sites which will hosted on this web server using IP based
vitual hosting.
Say the 2 sites are example1.com and example2.com. I have 2 static
Internet IPs for these 2 sites. Say they are 123.456.78.1 and 123.456.78.2.

I have configured Apache 2 to read them as IP based virtual hosts. The
network card eth0, on this secure server has an IP say, 64.118.100.11
I created 2 IP aliases for this NIC.
So eth0:1 has IP 123.456.78.1
eth0:2 has IP 123.456.78.2

I generate all the secure certificates for those 2 sites. If I type
https://www.example1.com and https://www.example2.com, I am able to view
the secure pages of those 2 sites using the browser on the secure web
server itself. By the way the DNS of those 2 sites were already setup.
However, these do not work if I want to browse them using a browser on
another PC. I just cannot see them from another PC outside the web server.

I found out Redhat 9, the Linux 2.6 kernel does not support IP aliases.
I don't know if it has something to do with firewall, the iptables.

Thanks,

_babak
