Welcome to the world of "higher computing". :) I'm sure you'll find it
rather refreshing.

The only version they make available on their FTP server is Professional,
with a few commercial software packages removed to make it free.

That'll do it, but it's going to be a slow download for you. Consider
using a mirror site.

Understand that SuSE doesn't distribute using ISO images, so to simply
download it and burn it to a CD will be next to impossible. They publish
it in the individual packages (the whole FTP tree consists of 61
directories, 6145 files that have to be downloaded individually). Using a
web browser, it would take years, and any other method will take several
hours to possibly days.

As I said, you cannot create CDs from their FTP tree in any easy way.
They did this on purpose. Plus, the whole of the FTP tree (including
source code) is 7.3 GB. Omit the source and you still have 4.1 GB.
You'll be using roughly six CDs.

SuSE has good documentation on their website, but you'll probably find
plenty of information just by searching Google. Search for something like:
"suse 9" install FTP howto
> Thank you very much for your guidance,
I hope what I said helped. If you're looking for a simple distro to
download, burn, and install in a relitively painless and quick manor, get
a distribution like Fedora or Mandrake that comes pre-packaged in an iso.
SuSE is great (It's what I'm using), but downloading it is a pain.
