Pan newsreader (0.14.0): Can't post an article

Quite happy using Pan (under SuSE 9.0 Pro), except I can't get it to
post an article.

If I compose an article and then select 'Send later' or 'Send Now',
the article seems to vanish into thin air - doesn't appear in Task
List, and doesn't get posted.

Have tried the Pan online help site, but no joy there.

Can anyone suggest what needs doing, please?

(Also, what are the implications of the 'Work Offline' option under
'File'?)

I read/compose postings offline, and use dial up to ISP to
post/retrieve.
