Hello,
I'm new to the LINUX os, and the folks at the college I go to just
installed Linux (Fedora) for me today as a dual os with Windows XP.
They set it up the best they could, but I've run into a few glitches.
Upon bootup of Linux, first of all it takes about 5-10 minutes for it
to boot (closer to 10). Then, I get a message before GNOME loads
stating,
"Could not look up internet address for phrankndonna. This will
prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
It may be possible to correct the problem by adding phrankndonna to
the file /etc/hosts."
It shows a button to Retry and a button to Load Anyway. I tried to
Retry a couple times to no avail, then Loaded Anyway. After a few
minutes, GNOME loaded. However, I had no connection to the internet
(but there definitely is a connection to the internet that is working
fine when I load the Windows XP os. The folks that loaded it did
configure my system for DHCP using the configuration tool, but I don't
know how to go about checking to ensure it matches the settings I have
in XP.
Also, during the bootup it says that the host/network
clock2.redhat.com failed as well as the Synch Time Server. Once the
GNOME loads (after getting the message that it may not work properly),
it takes a very long time for even the browser to load. Now, I was
told I needed to go to the NVIDIA site to update my video driver
(which I obviously haven't done because I can't connect to the
internet), and maybe that has to do with it.
Any ideas what's going on and what I should do? Thanks!
Frank
