Upgrading from Red Hat 9 to Fedora Core 2, not a success... yet.

Hello:
I have tried to upgrade from RH 9, to FC2 (released version).
My system is dual boot.
Fedora installer (anaconda) detected the hardware ok, did detect the
previous install (RedHat 9), and I opted for an upgrade, using all the
defaults options.
I seemed to go ok.
But when I reboted the system (a dual boot with GRUB), something was
done (the login screen says Fedora Now) but most of the software (for
example GIMP, kmail, et...) have not been updated to the latest as
expected.
The kernel also is the old 2.4.
---- The good news is excepted a few minor problems due to new video driver (for Nvidia), everything still works, it seems. ---- The bad news, is that exepted new login screen the update does not seem to be there. Even an old problem with Konqueror (hangs the system), seems to be there. ---- Suspecting the problem to be related with dual boot, I reinstalled the original RH9 grug.con file, and FC2. Same problem. ----- Any idea? ---- Thanks for the attention... possibly a solution. Linuxuser. Note that I have never been happy with previous Linux upgrades, in the past I had to do a painful reinstall from scratch, for several distributions. Certainly an area where some work may bring some serious improvement... like Windows (I had upgrade problems too there). Gentoo claims to have adressed this problem.
