I am trying to start using Linux as I do not want to go to XP in my
Windows box. I have just received the two cd set and I decided to
follow instructions. Cd 1 only came up with a Live Cd option. After
reading ahead a few pages I saw something about using Cd 2 and that
came up with installation options. I chose the default installation
option. Everything was going ok when the installation tried to
configure the network and the installation hung up at Running Internet
Connection Test. I saw something like Illegal Vendor
eth-id-07:00:07:00:07:00 DHCP. I had to push the reset button on the
    front of the computer.
When I tried the live cd option, the network worked fine and I was on
the internet in about 5 minutes. I find this rather strange.
When the system is booting from the hd I see something like:
Linksys ethernet network everywhere fast NC100 Rev. 11
I also saw IP address 127.00.1/8 about the same time.

The computer is a Lindows configured computer I bought from WalMart
and Mepis and Sun Java Desktop all configure the network ok. The
network is on the mobo. The hd I am using is brand new with nothing on
it. No other hd or os is connected. I do not like Lindows, Mepis and
Sun Java do not see the firewire external hd so I am trying SuSe. I am
only a W98 user and I need a windows type of environment as I am not
into trying to configure the software. Some people expect me to suffer
through configuring like they did but this is not what I have been
told about Linux. Linux is supposed to be a great os. I am trying to
find a os that will recognize everything as if I was trying to
configure a computer with W98, i.e. fairly automatic. Can anyone help
me as I am rather stuck right now and I am back on my W98 computer?
    Thank you.

    Richard
