HI,
I have a desktop runnig Mandrake 10 (OE-Fresh install) with ALL updates.
I use KMail/KDE 3.2.
I organized my Kmail in a hierarchical mode (e.g. I have a mail folder
named shop/books/amazon/orders).
Recently I bought a laptop, fresh installed on it the same packages,
including updates.
I want to copy ALL my Kmail data to the laptop yet I can't get through.
Every way I tried resulted at best by copying all Kmail folders but only
the highest level folders (e.g., shop/) contain the messages while lower
level folders appear on the laptop as empty (although they definitely have
multiple messages in the source desktop).
I've tried to following:
1. Configuring rsync as a daemon on the desktop and running it as a client
on the laptop. rsync complained it has no permission (even if I ran the
laptop as root) and did not copy any file. rsync itself worked fine and
copied may other folders between these two PCs. Both the laptop and the PC
have the same root and user accounts and passwords. (namely, I tried to
copy /home/user/.Mail to its "tween" on the laptop).
2. I used tar to create a zipped .Mail file, verified (--verbose) that it
indeed contained ALL "child" folders and files, transferred (via rsync this
170 MByte file to the laptop and extracted it there. This time I got the
partial copy as detailed above.
I'd appreciate any advise how to carry out this elementary task.
TIA
