RAM Memory, not disc rotational speed, has the biggest impact on system
speed. How much RAM in your system? Processor speed? It may not make
sense worrying about one component when other factors could control.
More (maybe irrelevent) information:
The quickest way to build a test system would be to use your 14G. It may
not be as fast as the 120G, but it is likely a DMA33 or DMA66 drive. For
me, the only noticable disk bottleneck has been for drives using PIO data
transfer modes.
If you want to get started right away, backup your 14G (to the 120G ?).
Then, install the distribution of your choice.
Dual boot issues are mostly handled by the loader. I recommend the grub
loader because it is most flexible for dual boot. The loader can be
installed as part of the setup (with Fedora).
A very simple option for building a dual boot system is to make a "boot
floppy" as part of the setup. The drawback is booting from a floppy takes
about 30 seconds longer than from a hard disk.
