ethernet connection working at 1.2Mb/sec

HI,
I connected two (linux) boxes with two low end realtek
ethernet card.
Even if they are advertised as 10/100 Mbit doing scp
I get at max 1.2 Mb/sec : is this performance satisfactory
or can I expect more ?
