Why does the version of KDE installed with Mandrake 10.0 look and act
nothing like either the Mandrake documentation or the KDE documentations
suggests? For example, the K-menu icon is a star and not the K looking
thing, but that's the least of it...
I've been directed to menu items that don't exist, told to click things
in the control center that aren't there, and have a total screenlock and
need to hard-reboot every 10 minutes.
Also I keep getting weird behavior like the K menu editor crashed on me
and now it's gone - when I select it nothing happens. Even the help
files included in the installation give me help that I cannot follow due
to things not being where I'm told.
I don't know if it's Mandrake or KDE, but neither is acting as it
should. I bought a couple books on Linux, one specifically for
Mandrake, and what the books tell me and what happens on the screen are
very different. The latest Mandrake documentation agrees with the
books, and disagrees with what's in front of me.
This is after re-installing more than 4 times, including a total disk
wipe and re-initialization each time.
So I don't know if the culprit for all the crashes is Mandrake or KDE,
but I cannot keep the system stable if I try and do any kind of
customization or hardware setup. Even the screensaver refuses to work.
