Hello All,
I'm new to this newsgroup. Please accept my apologies if it's the
wrong
group for my question.
I've just ventured into trying out or at least attempting to try out
an
alternative to windows os's. I'm trying to install Linspire on an
800mhz
Slot A Athlon based machine, 128mb ram, small 2.1gb hard drive, Msi
6191
(100mhz fsb) motherboard. The installation goes well until very close
towards the end when I get a message which says "installation failed
error
code 200, Rsync" when I reboot the machine hangs and nothing happens.
The
machine has been loaded with windows XP pro as a test and takes that
and
runs it fine.
Can anyone please tell me what could be causing the Linspire
installation
error or at least point me in the direction of a newsgroup where I may
be
able to find the answer? I've tried the Lindows website but it doesn't
mention the error code 200 any where.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Dave

Hey, Barry here. This is speaking from personal experience installing
Linspire. The first time I tried, I burned the iso at too fast a
recording speed, and I got the same error you spoke of. Earlier this
week, I redownloaded the iso and burned it at 4X speed, and the
install was easy (I let Linspire take over my D partition while
keeping Windows on my C partition). My computer has a 40GB HDD and
192MB RAM. Linspire recognized my video card (plain old Intel i810),
my USB mouse (Logitech optical wheel mouse), and all my other
hardware...except for my modem/soundcard combo thing...one of those
Conexant/Riptide crappy combo cards. I'm going to ditch it in favor of
a separate PCI modem (or an external modem) and a PCI
soundcard...maybe Soundblaster. It's pretty nice, but of course people
have their own opinions on what version of Linux is better or best.
I'm pretty satisfied with Linspire, and I will definitely keep it and
Windows on this computer.
