Need some help on kernel modules

I compiled kernel 2.4.26 and it gives me two errors

1. /etc/modules.conf is more recent that /lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.dep.
What causes this and how do you fix it?

2. modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-10-135.
I known it is looking for a piece of hardware, but which one is it? I would
also like to know how to look this up. Ie where can I get a "list" of
these type modules so in the future I can fix this myself.

Also is there a kernel module HOWTO or something like that? If so can
someone point me to a URL for it?

This comes from a LFS system that I have just built version 5.0. This is
the first system I have built from scratch and I want to learn how to
trouble shoot it and how it works. I want to use this system to replace a
Mandrake 8 system that will be connected to the internet.
Next on my agenda is to upgrade the firewall from ipchains to iptables, but
that will be another struggle, I need to learn iptables.

Thanks Everyone.
