ACPI Problems on Medion Laptop MD41700

Applies to: SUSE LINUX 9.1

Symptom

When installing SUSE LINUX 9.1 on a Medion laptop MD41700, the keyboard
cannot be addressed. In addition, the system occasionally crashes.

Cause

A wrong ACPI interrupt routing on the laptop causes the problems.

Solution

If you are installing from scratch, select your language from the
installation menu by pressing F4. Then insert the following parameter as a
boot option:

acpi_irq_balance

The boot parameter is automatically added to the boot loader configuration.
You can now proceed with the installation.

Procedure for an Installed System

The system has probably been installed with a disabled ACPI. Although the
system basically works, many important functions, such as the temperature or
battery charge level readout, are not available.

To activate ACPI, replace the parameter

acpi=off

with:

acpi_irq_balance

//

USB mouse works PS/2 don't.

Notebook keyboard and PS/2 keyboard don't work, too.
