Hi folks
I am posting this message to multiple groups as it involves MS Windows
XP, 2003 Serever, Linux Red Hat and Solaris. There might be people
somewhere who experienced similar problems or could provide some
guidance. Here is the scenario:
I have two pcs, compaq and dell. Compaq runs Windows XP and connects
directly to internet via Bell DSL. It provides a shared connection
through a 2nd network card to the other pc (dell) which is loaded with
Win 98, 2003 server, linux red hat 9 and solaris 9 (all on the same
hard drive).
Whenever Dell is turned on or shut off, it disrupts the Compaq's
internet connection. In fact as soon as Compaq discovers that the
Network Cable has been plugged off (crossover cable between two pcs),
which is simulated by powering on/off of Dell, it disconnects internet
connection. It comes back when a site is refreshed so it is not such a
big deal, but is quite a nuisance. Also it makes acedmic sense to
study this problem. The behavior is same whether Dell is running Win
2003 Server, Red Hat 9 or Solaris 9.
All replies will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Cheers.
