I have the same versions on my system (Debian Sarge), and on my system
sound works without a problem. Maybe you could try and use the oss
drivers instead. All you have to do is to unload all the ALSA drivers
(snd-*) and load the oss sound driver for your card. It should be
included in the standard kernel packages.
