make command on Suse 9.1

This may sound silly, but I can not locate the "make" command on a
Suse Personal 9.1 system. I discovered this when trying to install
emacs (which was also not present for some reason). The config script
of emacs creates a makefile, but without the make command it is not
much use to me.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks,

Abe
