I have an EPIA ME6000 Eden with 256Mb RAM, on which I am trying to
install a Linux OS (initially Fedora Core 2). However, I have been
unable to get any Linux OS to complete even the initial stages of an
installation without the board resetting.
This normally happens when an installation is chosen (i.e. 'graphical
linux') and the installation files are being read off the CD. In the
Fedora case, the installation screen starts fine and you can enter
your installation choice at the boot: prompt. Thereafter the system
attempts to load and gets as far as:
vmlinuz - loads OK
initrd.img - loads most of it and then the board resets.
It looks like there might be another message: 'Uncompressing..??' - it
disappears too quickly - but it's tough to tell. Using other
installation choices has no effect (i.e. text-based linux, 'noprobe',
whatever. They all fail. What is even more odd is that I have been
able to successfully install Windows 2000 on the same machine with the
same hardware. It works perfectly and seems very reliable. What am I
doing wrong? Is there a particular build of Linux I should be using?
As you can probably tell this is my first attempt to build a system
that is a bit 'custom'.
Thanks for any help.
Chris
