I've downloaded the latest Knoppix and managed to boot my PC
with it.
AMD K6-2 550 MHz
Mobo: ASUS P5A-B,
256 Mb RAM
CD: ATAPI compatible
HD: IDE, 20 Gb.
PS/2 Mouse - via the Mobo adaptor, HDD Smart enabled, power
management on, PnP OS - Yes.
Q1) But. How do I make a permanent installation of this?
With Windows I usually have a HD with at least 3 partitions.
C - for drives
D - data
E - HD 'swap' (virutal memory)
Do I need the swap drive when using Linux?
The machine can currently see two partitions which, I think, are
NTFS.
I typed:
knx-hdinstall
at the terminal and I got:
bash: knx-hdinstall: command not found
Likewise
sudo knx-hdinstall
gives
sudo: knx-hdinstall: command not found
Q2) What went wrong here?
Q3) How do I install the HD with Linux partitions?
This PC is connected to a LAN which has 3 other Windows
computers and a smoothwall firewall/router. Knoppix has
automatically detected my 3Com NIC and I have internet
connection - i.e. I can see Google.
Q4) How do I configure my Windows XP network so that it can see
the new computer?
