How to best deal with this hardware configuration please?

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations. I have used Linux off and on for
years but honestly never got very CLI comfortable with it, but once a
system is up and going I manage ok.
I built a new system a few months ago but I am just getting around to
making it dual boot. I think I may have a catch22 problem with the
install, but I may not, and I am just suffering from ignorance. I'll
explain after the hardware listing.
Mother board: Soltek K8AN2E-GR
Chip set: nVidia nForce3 250GB (SATA/RAID, AC97 codec, Gigabit LAN, USB)
Memory: 1 gig
CPU: AMD64 3200+ Newcastle core
GPU: nVidia 6800 GT
HDD: 2x Samsung SP0812C (80 gig drives setup in RAID+0)
Sound card: Audigy2Z (on board AC97 disabled)
DVD-CDRW CDROM drive
Standard 3.5 disket drive
It has Windows XP Pro on it.
The system being setup in RAID+0 is where I am having a stumbling block.
So far I have tried Knoppix 3.6 and Mandrake 10 (download version). The
nVidia Linux driver for this chip set is 3.18MB in file size. Knoppix
will run fine on the system but without the full chip set driver in
place, I can't use my LAN port to connect to my router to connect to my
network bridge and so on...
Either I need a distro that has this nVidia driver
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_amd64_1.0-0292 or I need a way
to get access to the driver so I can install it.
In Knoppix I don't see a way to examine it's CD for drivers and I also
have not figured out how low level drivers and such are installed or
managed other than at boot which I don't think is the path that I need
to pursue.
I could make a custom boot CD by just adding in that nVidia file but I'm
not sure that is the best way or even appropriate method to deal with this.
Once I get past that first issue I am unsure if it matters that my
Windows XP Pro partitions are NTFS formated. I believe LILO installs to
the boot sector and I will of course install Linux into it's own
partitions which will be on the RAID+0 striped set.
I could use a bit of hand holding advice please. I'm loathe to screw up
my current Windows install, so I would like to know what common pitfalls
I should try to avoid here and what may be the best install route for
me. I'm open to downloading any freely available distro and burning to CD.
Thanks folks
