I have an AMD K6-III 450 on a FIC motherboard. I had the following
install issues with Fedora Core 3 and have resolved them. Hope
someone benefits from these.
1. I was using a PCI S3 card for video. The install disks would
error out saying it could not run X. I tried the text based install
but after the install the OS would hang on startup. The solution was
to move to a newer Nvidia TNT 16Meg AGP card and perform a fresh
install.
2. My ISA SoundBlaster 64 card was not recognized. I decided to
try a PCI sound card.
3. My PCI SoundBlaster Live Value card was recognized but I only
got sound during the sound installation test. The test guitar was
faint. After the installation I had no sound but the detection
utility in KDE saw the card. After trying several other unsuccessful
ideas, I looked in the KDE KMix utility and found several sliders whos
values were too low for sound output. Seems that the default values
should be high enough so that you can hear some sound, especially when
the card is hooked to a high wattage stereo. There were several
sliders in both the input and output tab that were at the bottom and
needed to be increased. One was main sound, PCM, treble and bass, I
Can not remember the exact names but if any one was missed there was
no sound.
