Andy,

Yes, even if I change, config.inc.php login from auth to http and get
prompted for a pwd it does not accept it. I think the problem was that
when we first got phpMyAdmin up it warned us to set a pwd for root and
we set it to something other that the machine root pwd. My
understanding is that the pwd should be the same for mySql as for linux
root. We did not do that. Is there a way to delete the password file
for mySql and start over? We've tried:

mysqladmin -u root flush-privileges password "newpwd"

but get another error message:

#2002 - Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

The file mysql.sock is not there when I go to look for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Rob
